About
It is worth noting that T-54/55 are actually two type of tanks which is T-54 and T-55. Since both of the tanks have a lot in common, it is designated as T-54/55. It is designated like that because the T-55 had a minor but significant improvements from its predecessor, the T-54 and due to the facts that the tanks have the same silhouette. These tanks are intended to counter the threat of the new American M60 Patton tanks. Compared to T-54, the T-55 had a new turret which was revised and improved from the T-55 and T-55 also have the NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) protection to protect the crew. In the late models of T-55, the tank's gun was capable of launching ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missile) which greatly improved the tank's killing range and the tanks could also be fitted with the latest ERA (Explosive Reactive Armor) and applique armor which significantly increased the tank's level of protection and secured the tank's reputation as a menacing weapon even on the 21st century's battlefield.
